When do I register to take the NCLEX?

.....if I am graduating in May 2006, when should I regsiter to take the test? Do I have to pay for the test then? I live in Massachusetts and it's like a million dollars to take the test and what not. Actually, it's about $600, but still, I am in a place where I will have to start saving up for that. Any suggestions? Thanks

You wait until you graduate from school. You have to apply for licensure first with the state and have your credentials accepted. Your school should be giving you information on this.

The cost of the actual exam is only $200.

Re: When do I register to take the NCLEX?

It is typical of Massachusetts nursing programs for students to be guided through the process of registering for the NCLEX during the last semester (last weeks) of the nursing program. Most nursing programs have a "transition to practice" course or seminar in which application for licensure is covered in detail.

I would suggest you ask either the coordinator of your nursing course or the dean of the program about the timeline for applying for licensure. My sense is they will provide you with the forms and the information toward the end of the program.

Best of luck in your final semester.

Re: When do I register to take the NCLEX?

Thank you both for the info. My program is somewhat new and I believe they are still working out the lumps in it, so we have heard no info. on how, when, where for the NCLEX yet. Hopefully this semester we will. Thanks.
