Re: well, I took it

Thanks guys!! also i want to post a question that i got on the test. it is still bugging me.

"You are a nurse working in a long term care facility. While passing meds you hear noises coming from a residents room, you step in the door way. A resident with MS is engaged in sexual activity with a resident who has moderate dementia. the resident with dementia is calling the resident with MS by the residents late spouses name. what do you do initially?

a: leave without saying anything
b: tell them this is inappropriate and to put their clothes back on
c: step inside and close the door
d: don't remember but it didn't make sense

so what do you guys think? I was taught in school that this is there home and that if they want to have sex they can, but the part about the dementia patient and calling the other person by the wrong name makes me think the activity should ceese.

Kris, was it just "step inside and close the door" and nothing else with it?? Hmmmmm....

And did it specifically say "moderate" dementia??

I'm kinda torn between leaving them to their pleasure and c, if it involved ensuring their privacy and finding out if the resident with dementia consented to the relationship.

But then, I always read too much into questions

Good luck, sweetie, on your NCLEX...

While I haven't been taught what to do or think....lol I'm going to give my opinion anyway.

I would ask if both parties are consenting, if so, leave them be.

I sure wouldn't want to step inside and shut the door. It would be my luck, I'd get a harassment charge or some other weird charge.

As for calling the wrong name, heck, that could happen even if you don't have dementia!

Actually, the question says initially. Therefore, I would think you would step inside and close the door, then ask if both parties consented. If so, leave and shut the door behind you. So, I would pick C.

OH.....be careful posting questions.

Nursing is my second career and i am excited and nervous about starting a new job and a new life. I am going to be working on a ortho/neuro-step down unit. I can hardly wait for Nov 14 to get here. I start in january for the transition program to get my RN. then I may take a break from school!! By the way, I picked step inside and shut the door.

Author, you can't post test questions here. It might get you in trouble.
