Took NCLEX - What Went Wrong?
|
|
Anybody there? I took the NCLEX Monday and knew right away I failed. It was so disappointing to have questions on meds I never heard of, much less knew the side effects of...also, had dozens of priority questions! How can I possibly study for the retest? Any suggestions? I graduated with a 3.6 and know my nursing "stuff." What went wrong? Help, please!

Hello,
I moved your post from an off-topic thread to the NCLEX forum for a better response.
Good luck.

hi,
I used the saunders CD to study and went under the category "Client Needs" as this is the NCLEX test plan.
Also do not concentrate so much on trying to memorize every single med. I found in most questions I could basically take a guess if I didn't know the med as to which choice would harm the patient first. In other words if your choices are headache, leg pain, unexplained bruising, dry mouth... pick the unexplained bruising since bleeding issues would cause more harm then the others.
Good luck

I'm in the same boat as you. I know my stuff but failed NCLEX. Now what we have to do while we wait to retest is get organized and gain some confident. Find one review book and stick with it until you read the whole thing, then start another one (others have told me jumping from book to book can confuse you). Break the books up into sections and stay on a study schedule, like do one section a night. Next, get your head in the right place, you know this stuff, so go blow the NCLEX out of the water!!! And ya know we're going to be the best nurses because we are the ones who had to work extra hard for our dream!!! Lastly, put it in God's hands, he will bring the RN behind you name!

I'm going through the same thing right now as well, and I gotta tell ya Rosewood, your words of encouragment were just what I needed today! I can't retake my NCLEX until August 15th but already everyone I know is pressuring me left and right.
I'm doing Suzanne's NCLEX study plan (Saunder's book) and then I'm planning on going through the Kaplan course book that a friend loaned me. After that (if I get that far!) I have a book that is all medication review that I'm going to attempt to trek through.
UGH! It's a long road ahead, but Rosewood is absolutely right----we will be the better RNs because we've had to work harder for it! We know without a doubt what it means to bust our butts to accomplish our dreams...and we will be rewarded in the end! And we will be able to appreciate the journey that brought us here and be more knowledgeable RNs in the long run!
I was devastated when I found out that I'd taken a three-and-a-half-hour long test with all 265 questions just to FAIL in the end. The comforting thing was that I was very, very close to passing; I just think that my anxiety was what got me in the end. Much encouragement and cyber-hugs to you both; we can and WILL do this thing! As one of my co-workers told me--- "Amy, it ain't nothin' but a thang."

I was told in kaplan to take my time in the first 100 questions. Some pple rush it so as not to be choked by time but at the end of the day, they will answer the 265 question. If you take your time in the ist 100 questions, you'll choose right and may end up with 75 questions as i did in my time but after that if it keep giving you questions, you can hasten up a bit but dont rush it but dont waste so much time.Goodluck

Thanks - I needed some encouragement. I'm feelin' pretty low right now! I stayed up most of the night researching online courses and study guides. Now, I just need to get the plan in action! Unfortunately, this doesn't just affect me - my family, job, summer plans, are all affected too. Soooooo disappointing!!

Many thanks for your reply! I don't want to keep having a pity-party, but it is going to take me a while to get over this. I felt sure I would pass. The consequences are many right now...

Hey, look my family plans, money plans, and summer vacations were all messed up too, but everything happens for a reason. Maybe one day you will see that reason. I believe me reason for failing was to help people like you because hearing that my words was what you needed, touched me. Tonight you need to get some friends together and just go have a drink (to relax you) and just let it all out. Then Friday, you start your new game plan. Keep you head up!
