Third time taker of RN boards ... what suggestion/advice can you give???

On Feb or early March will be my 3rd time. Any suggestion or advice in the way anyone studied for this 3rd try??

I will truly appreciate it.

It will be nice if people who took it twice and failed will give suggestions because we are all in the same boat.

Thank you in advance.

We have threads with plenty of advice on study and support but you may find using Suzanne's plan a good one to try

Hey Don't Give Up!! I Was In The Same Boat Just 2 Months Ago. I Took The Hurst Review Online And Passed. I Really Understood The Information Better And Had A Better Idea Of How To Answer The Questions. I Actually Knew The Material After Taking The Test 2 Times. I Passed The Third Time, But After Testing, Still Did Not Feel Confident. You Will Do Fine-just Stay Relaxed! Good Luck

take a few months break (amonth or 2 maybe). Condition yerself. Do not take the next nclex test just for the fact of taking it and see what the result will be. Have a study plan. See what have u done wrong in the past and try to correct it. read and understand. memorise only important values. NA, K, normal values, toxic level. Know and understand types of medicines. what it does, drug interactions, diets, know who to see first. a patient in severe pain or a patient who cannot breath. who when to isolate patients. Place yourself onto patient's shoes. what will happen to you if you have broken yer arm (fracture) or you have high blood pressure or when u r having high or low blood sugar. Place the scenario on ideal setting where all available stuff you need are ALL readily available. Read more on what you think is your weakness. Practice questions. calm down and pray. take the test when you feel you are ready. Reviewing medical terminology helped me as well as it giave me ideas on what type of disease it is by merely looking at its rootword (hyper=more, glyc=sugar, emia=disease or condition), again, memorization is not the key to passing nclex. It is how we understand and how we put learned knowledge and skills into action on ideal set up.

Best of Luck. Never give up. Always give it a try. those who end up being a looser are those people who gave up. As long as we keep on trying, we are never a looser but more so a fighter.

OMG!!!!!! 16x's???!!!!!
I would totally poooo!!!!
I'm probably shooting for March myself, which sadly is a year from when I took it last. It's soooooo surprising how quickly some things go by, like test time. I had one heck of a time with one of my nursing exams in school, only to find out AFTER I passed it, they changed the course req., and that one was waived if you were a active LPN...I was, booooooo!!!!! That alone would of saved me 1 year on my studies, but hey, we have our whole lives to work
I'll keep an eye out for you, and let me know how the studies are doing. I probably won't get back to the hard core stuff for another week or so, I'm thinking the 3 lil' ones are sort of enjoying me home and away from the books....
cheers,
jeni

Re: Third time taker of RN boards ... what suggestion/advice can you give???

Hiiii! It is quite depressing when you failed BUT NEVER GIVE UP MY ALLNURSES FAMILY! Employers won't ask how many times you took the test before you passed it, it doesn't matter. Its just that there are few reasons why you failed. Its either, lack of review or strategy or there maybe an additional stressor aside from the exam itself but bottomline is NEVER GIVE UP, HAVE FAITH & COURAGE AND YOU'LL MAKE IT TOO.

Remember: You have worked hard to finish your studies in nursing, all you have to do now is to pass the exam and bear in mind , tell yourself that "Others made it and so do I!!!"
