Re: Survey:self Study Vs. Review Center

I guess it depends on how you test and whether you are able to study on your own or you need a bit more structure.

I test fine and didn't use a study center; they're expensive and I figured I didn't need it. I am also a pretty good self-starter when it comes to school stuff--usually .

Some of my classmates who struggled a bit on tests used a study program and it worked well for them. Some of them took it over the break before the last semester started and that seemed to work very well.

Honestly, a lot of the NCLEX test is being able to understand how they want you to answer the questions. It wasn't so much based on knowledge.

I think they used Kaplan. A bunch of them took the classes together and learned a lot and had fun at the same time .

Re: Survey:self Study Vs. Review Center

I say both! I also did very well in nusrsing school. However, this does not necessarily prepare you for NCLEX. As has been said before, it is a test that is half based on your knowledge and the other half is understanding how this test works. I took the Kaplan Complete course, so I attended their class and studied on my own. It worked for me, I passed in 75 questions

Good luck to you!

And.... if you have a job lined up already check into reimbursement. My hospital reimburses for Kaplan once you've passed the NCLEX.

Re: Survey:self Study Vs. Review Center

I did well in school but found it difficult to deal with test taking stress, so I used a combination of self study aids. I went through the ATI NCLEX prep course and supplemented that with Saunders, Nursing Made Easy NCLEX review, and Kaplan's How to take the NCLEX. My rationale being that the more I prepared the less likely it would be for nerves to get the best of me. It worked somewhat, I did remain focused on the exam but still left feeling like I was going to throw up and like my brain was mush. I had a total of 75 questions and I'm now waiting for my results.

Carmen

BTW some of my classmated did take the Kaplan review. It worked for them, too expensive for me
