Help! - Reviewing NCLEX PN SAUNDERS BOOK 3RD EDITION

I studied from 8pm-10pm last night and finished 50 Queastions, I see I'm the 50 Question Queen on here but thats okay. I'm learning well at least trying to learn but "Boy O Boy" the Metabolic Alkalosis and Metabolic Acidosis just trying to understand this. I'm trying to put this together ex:

1. A person was taking to much antacids for a gastric ulcer and from my understanding this mean your having excessive bicarbonates so if thats the case you can go into Metabolic Alkalosis. Please someone explain this to me to break down and understand this?
