I wrote on the application, next to that, that this was part of my nursing school curricula (it was) and that I had no additional documentation, only what the school would provide.

It was sufficient.

The question is, DID you have coursework in that that the school can verify?

Then you'll need the course. It's a requirement for licensure. The content is not something you'd cover appropriately in psych nursing; it's an understanding of what qualifies as reportable, and to whom, in what manner, etc, to legally cover all the bases.

Check with your Board of Nursing and find out how to fulfill this.

Everybody in NY State has to complete this (from nurses to physicians to teachers to attorneys). Mainly, anybody who has the potential to provide care for a child that is being abused, his/her family, etc. I remember reading that you cannot be excused unless you give valid reason (i.e.: Took a similiar course in college - psych nursing does not count - or for any given reason, you won't be providing care to these types of patients). I took it after I took my boards. I don't remember what I put on my application - maybe that I'd complete the course at a later date. You will still be assigned an ATT whether or not you have taken this course. I opted to do an online course for $30. It took me about an hour and a half to read through, and then complete a short 15 question test afterwards. The website URL is http://www.accesscontinuingeducation...000/course.htm. They tell you immediately whether you have passed or failed (you need above a 12/15), if you failed, you just go over the readings again and retake it (no stress!).

If you feel uncomfortable doing it online, go to the NY Board of Nursing website, they'll give you a list of acceptable programs in your area and around the U.S. Hope this helps.

Re: New York Application NCLEX...NEEd Help?

Nope, you pay $30 up front and can retake the test as many times as you need to. And then the final "pass" result is electronically sent to the NY State Boards. The test is really basic. I'm pretty sure the website allows you to go back over the material you read while you're taking the test. They want you to pass... but also come out with the knowledge of when to report an incident/where to report it to, etc.
