for NCLEX test takers in CA

Took my test for the second time with 265 on March 18 and still haven't had my name posted on the CA BON site, so I'm guessing I failed since I know for sure that all my paperwork have been turned in and that there should be no delays. I was just wondering if it's okay to just send in my application to retake the test right now instead of waiting for my failed results to be mailed in to speed up the process...I don't want to wait any longer since CA takes sooo long to process everything and want to take it right when my 45 days is up...Thanks

Re: for NCLEX test takers in CA

Please focus on preparing for the exam first, and then reregister for the exam. You have done it your way with retesting as soon as you can, and it may not have worked for you.

I would concern yourself with preparing first, and then worry about writing the exam again.

Always better on the psyche as well to be able to go in fully prepared and pass it. And i do not care how much time that you put into preparing, each time that you test, you need to prepare as if you have never written the exam and start over from Day One. You are not going to see any of the questions that you had on the previous exams when you test again.

Would take a week to just relax before starting to prepare again, and then get into it. Taking just the weekend, usually does not give you a clear head.

If you wish my help, I am willing to help you, but you will not be ready to test in six weeks. And remember that 45 days to retest is from when you wrote the exam, not from when you get your results. So wishing to test again in just a couple of weeks makes no sense at all to me or anyone else.

Best of luck to you.

Re: for NCLEX test takers in CA

I appreciate the advice, i really do. But "prepared" is a subjective (obviously) some people feel "prepared" and their not, some do not feel "prepared" and they are.

Stats say the longer out of school we go the less chance we have of passing. thats why i personally take it asap.

I know i know enough "content", i just have to get the "strategy" of the test itself.

what i felt i did wrong fo rme is i used a lot of various books and i more or less aced the test quesions at the back, even in the book you recommended for your plan,

I did part one of your plan, i bought the saunders book 4th ed and took the quizes at the end of the chapter, if i would score less that 75% i would read the chapter, well i never got below 75% in the book.

now, i also had the kaplan books, now therea a different strory..some tests i would do good 70%+ som i would get 50%, these questions were way harder and very similar to NCLEX.

i am going to buy the kaplan QBANK 1100 questions for 300 bucks

My wife and her 4 best freinds are all RN's and the top 5 in there class 6 years ago, my 2 best freinds are RN's..they all quiz me and help me

i have them sit with me when i do quesions and i sound out my rationales for answers as i answer the quesions, they dont help. and they see that i know what i am doing, thats why we are all dumbfounded as to why i cant pass the NCLEX..sure i dont ACE all my tests but to pass a "minimum standard" nursing test, we (I) just cant explain it,

mabye its nerves ?? i know its a confindence issue, i was terrified my second time, and for my third i will be a mess.

I believe with my heart and soul i was ready, everyone around me beleived that as well..i did eveything i could to prepare, i felt "ready"..

obviously it wasnt enough, but i will go on. i am NOT going to let this NCLEX beat me.

Re: for NCLEX test takers in CA

You did only the first tip which is a review and is not my program. You need to understand what the exam is looking for in its answer, not what you come up with as far as rationales. And adding in more sources at this time is not going to be beneficial to you.

Just doing questions does not prepare one for the exam, and we have seen that over and over again.

Your choice what to do, but again, you need to prepare from the beginning as if you have never tested. And that takes more than a few weeks to do. You are not giving yourself enough time to adequately prepare at this time for a repeat exam. You are trying to cram and nothing more than that. And cramming is the worst thing that one can do for this exam, especially even more so when a retest.

The exam is not looking for something that you already were tested on in school, but what you will do with information that you have already learned and this may be where you are making your mistake. Also, if you try to do as many questions as you can per day, your brain does not retain the information and this has also been proven over and over again.

Best of luck on whatever you decide to do.

If you do not pass this next time, then you can contact me.

Re: for NCLEX test takers in CA

And for each and every time that one takes the exam, the stats also go down. You are failing to realize that.

You are in a rush to get the exam done, but not paying attention to what needs to be done.

And you are correct, you are going to be a bundle of nerves when you go to sit for the exam. You came to this site asking for help as well as complaining about the BRN. But you are not looking to listen to what many of us have told you and you are just going about doing as you wish. Again, the exam is not looking for what you learned in school, but you understanding what they are looking for in an answer. And that is what your focus needs to be.

Re: for NCLEX test takers in CA

Just like you guys, I took the exam last Mas. 18 and no names on the website yet, I was being positive that maybe the reason why my name is not yet being posted is because i used my married name now unlike the first one I used my single name. But I know this couldn't be possible I have to admit I failed and start to study again. I'll be waiting for the letter before I send my reapplication. To all of us, who didn't make it, we should not lose hope "God will make a way for us!" and that winners don't quit I know everything happens for a reason so I know in God's time we'll be writing our names with RN on it! To Ms. Suzzanne, if we we're going to use your plan do you recommend us doing the first step again I mean reading the entire Saunders book? Thanks.

If you did the first tip and that alone and did not pass the exam, then you need to do the first tip again. You are starting to prepare as if you have never tested in the past, this is how I do my reviews.

And there is no place in the first tip that tells you to read the entire book, actually it tells you not to do that and only do the quizzes at the end of the chapters.

If you did not use the 4th edition, would highly recommend that you use that.

First tip of my program can be found in a sticky at the top of this forum. All instructions are found there.
