Hey all

I'm scheduled for Monday the 27th...are their other people who r taking it on that day?

I still have to give Kaplan Q-Trainer 5,6 n 7......hope to finish it by tomorrow!

what r u guys concentrating more on during your final week of preparation....will appreciate any replys back..all the best!!

you're planning to take Q-trainer 5-7 on the same day? I wouldn't. I couldn't. How is that going to help? Take one. Review the rationales. give yourself a break, a day...take another. review it. ditto. and then the last. why bother otherwise?

P.S. then again, if this is working for you, rock on...you'll be fine

I'm taking mine on Monday too. Did qtrainer 7 today, it was the hardest one out of all. I guess my percent is ok. I've read posts where percentages were much lower than what I got which was a 60% and they passed the NCLEX first try. The ones that were posting and getting 65% and over seemed like they where getting only 75 questions on the NCLEX and passing. As long as I pass, I mean, we pass then it is all good. no more so than it took in 2 semesters worth by my pharm professors.
Know the pharmacokinetics and classes of drugs.

e.g. what is ACE and what does it mean to inhibit. what is happening in teh body when it does? what influence will that have if other drugs are involved? what are teh side effects? what else can it be used for?

then make a list and write down the names of the drugs and make flash cards. All the $$ review courses do this. Names on one side, side effects, interactions, etc. on the other side.

Here are some tips for drugs. I got this from a fellow member. I forgot who it was, so I'm thanking that person in advance. I hope this helps. As for me, I purchased Kaplan Medications in A Box on ebay for way cheaper. It helps familiarize myself with the meds, but that's about it. I use the Kaplan course book for drug classifications, side effects, and nursing considerations. It makes it easier to understand.

caine= local anesthetics
cillin= antibiotics
dine= anti-ulcer agents
done= opiod analgesics
ide= oral hypoglycemics
iam= antianxiety agents
micin= antibiotics
nium= neuromuscular blocking agents
olol= beta blockers
ole= anti-fungal
oxacin= antibiotics
pam= antianxiety agents
pril= ace inhibitors
sone= steroids
statin= antihyperlipidemics
vir= antivirals
zide= diuretics
pine: calcium channel blockers


I would like to give some general rules regarding psychiatry drugs:
1) Cannot be taken with alcohol, stimulants,depressants.
2) Cannot be given to pregnant, lactatingand patients with glaucoma.
3) Cannot be abruptly stooped but mus be tapered slowly
4) All are given after meals except anti anxiety agents( because food interferes with their absorption)
5) All psychiatry drugs have anti cholinergic side effects:
Dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention
