I take it in 7 days.

I did quite well in nursing study, as well as clinically. I took the ATI predictor and it gave me a 99% chance of passing. All my instructors and co-workers (I'm a med surg GN for 2 months now) say I've got nothing to worry about.

BUT.... since I can always find something to worry about, I'm terrified that I'm going to be "that guy." you know, the one that no one expects to fail, but fails anyway. i work with a girl that was "that girl." straight A's and outstanding clinical performance. top of her class. everyone was floored when she didn't pass. scares the bejeezus outta me.

i haven't actually "studied" using any of my NCLEX books. i've just been doing hundreds and hundreds of practice questions on my laptop and PDA since the first day of nursing school. hope that's a valid plan. i've heard it worked for others.

and to top it off, i'm typing this from a hotel room a mile away from where my father just had open heart surgery yesterday. triple bypass. i was up on the floor when my mom came in to tell me he was in ICU for chest pain. in a few hours he was sent to another hospital for a stat cath and possible stent. in a few minutes after that he was being flown to the largest cardiothoracic surgery hospital in the state because of a 99% blockage of the main left artery and 30-40% blocakge of 2 others. left work and found mom and drove 90 minutes to sit and wait for 240 more (trying to practice NCLEX questions on PDA). pops made it out of surgery and we went to see him in PACU. i've seen hundreds of patients with tubes in every orifice and monitors all over the walls and it never phased me a bit until the patient was the man that taught me how to fish and throw a baseball. big difference. looks better today. off the vent and the NG is out, but still critical. waking up a few minutes at a time. we're only allowed 10-15 minute visits.

ANYWAY, that last horrible run-on paragraph just adds more stress to an already stressful week. i figured after lurking for 2 years or so, this was as good of a time as any to drop in and vent, rant, etc.

wish me luck, fellow soldiers. my fingers are crossed for all of you as you battle the mighty beast that is NCLEX.

TS, you're going thru a lot now, and I wish you the best of luck. I work on a cardiac surgical unit and we get lots of open heart patients. It's a scary time for them,and your dad is lucky to have you. It honestly amazes me each and every time I get a pt from the cardiac ICU that has this procedure and is up and OOB, some even walking around, 2 days post-op. Good luck to both of you!

That was my style too .... did loads and loads of practice questions from Saunders, Lippincott and NCLEX-RN Review . I did a quick run through for those diseases I was unfamiliar with .... focused on normal values as well.
