Any time that you are in contact with a patient with MRSA, you should be using gloves. They are always in contact isolation.

They should have a designated stethoscope only for them or if you do use a stethoscope on a MRSA patient, clean it thoroughly before using it on other patients.

Most isolation rooms will have a stethescope in them for use specific to that one patient.
If you do need to use your own, it must be thoroughly disinfected before being used on another patient and should be wiped down completely as soon as you leave that room.
You would not want to be placing it around your neck again until it was cleansed. Or even in your pocket.

If an isolation doesn't have the designated stethescope I will put a glove on mine and then afterwards, wipe down thoroughly before putting it around my neck! But I alcohol wipe my bell after every pt.
