Is Kaplan a good course to take before boards

I will take the boards in a couple of months, I just graduated school and $500 bucks is a lot for Kaplan when you have been broke for so long. Was it worth it for those who took the course? Are there any less expensive courses or books that I can purchase at the bookstore that would be just as helpful?

I just finished the Kaplan course and while I liked it, I recommend just getting the book, reading their strategies and practice LOTS of questions.

All we did was review a ton of questions and nothing more.

Good luck!

I agree with Jess (hiya, btw!!)....get the book and CD and practice practice practice!!

I especially recommend using the CDs....makes perfect sense because you'll take the NCLEX on computer so might as well get used to the format

Re: Is Kaplan a good course to take before boards

I didn't take the Kaplan course, but I did read the book. I've been recommending it to all my friends that haven't taken their boards yet because I think it was the best one for teaching just how the NCLEX-RN questions should be interpreted and answered. I found myself thinking of the Kaplan book's strategies while I was taking the exam and came upon questions that were so hard I didn't know where to start. But I will say that it was good for me to use a variety of resources. I used the Mosby box of cards, Saunders, Pearson's Reviews and Rationales, learning.ext, Lippincott, and also MedsPub. Our school made us buy memberships to MedsPub every semester and then we had a MedsPub 4 day seminar at the end of school. I heard it was much like Kaplan's, and it's a good online study resourse. For me, I cannot hear review information and do questions for 8 hours a day for four days because it becomes a drone of "wah-wah-wah" after about three hours. I can do it better if I do it at home over the 30 day prep time before taking the test. I passed, by the way, just last week.
