Is Kaplan this book helpful?

Hi all, i am reading Saunders Comp but i think it is too much and i can't memorize it. Is Kaplan helpful ? What does this book focus on? The strategy to analyze the questions or line out the key points?

If you want to do Saunders, focus on the all the questions and rationale and let that be the knowledge gained..You would have to understand the disease and other things to fully understand the question and rationale..If you read too much in Saunders, there is just too much information to absorb..

Re: Is Kaplan this book helpful?

Saunders is pretty good, but Kaplan is better. My advice: try not to memorize but rather get a feel for the questions - nursing is more recognizing then deep analytical understanding - at least in the beginning.

I'm going to cast my vote for sticking with Saunders. I know it's a lot of info, but you don't want to memorize everything word-for-word anyway. You're looking for a broad overall understanding of the various topics.

Suzanne4 (co-moderator of this forum) has tons of experience helping international students pass the NCLEX and she has had the best success using a plan based on Saunders.

Thank u all of u, now i am doing the questions on the Saunder's CD,and my result is about 70-80%, is it a bad score and means that it's dangerous to pass the NCLEX?

Re: Is Kaplan this book helpful?

Saunders is great for practicing rationales & content - I don't think it can be beaten for that.

The on-line Kaplan questions, & especially the Kaplan live courses, can't be beaten for getting the idea of the sort of questions you need to be able to answer to pass N-CLEX.

I don't think it's possible to pass N-CLEX by memorising questions you need to understand how to answer them - i.e. what they are looking for in the answer. You need to be solid on your content in order to be able to apply it.

That is why Saunders, followed by Kaplan questions & live if at all possible is great.
