I can't get into study mode 4 the NCLEX-RN. I need advice and study tips

Hello everyone,

First I would like to say "thank you for taking time out to read this thread". I just graduated from Nursing school with honors and a minor in English. I was a high achiever in school and for some reason, I can't stay in study mode as I am trying to review for the NCLEX. I graduated in May and never wanted to see another Nursing textbook. I was heavily involved in campus events and I worked very hard in school. I just started taking Kaplan review classes and I am trying to remain focused. I have the Saunder's Review book, the Kaplan review book, and The NCLEX 3500 CD. I am horrified about taking this test and although I graduated with a good GPA I feel lost and I need help. Please if you have any suggestions and tips I would really appreciate it. I hope to take my exam at the end of August and I am dreading the fact of having to take the test a final time. I want to pass this test the first time.

Thanks,

Worried Graduate

Re: I can't get into study mode 4 the NCLEX-RN. I need advice and study tips

Hi there!

I graduated in May too and like you, I NEVER wanted to look at another book again! I was just so unmotivated to study. For me, doing practice questions on the computer was much more tolerable than having to sit and stare at a book. I don't know why, but it just didn't seem so bad I just took my NCLEX at the end of June and passed! I just posted this in another thread, but I felt that answering practice questions was the best way to study. It gets you thinking the "NCLEX way" and I was able to retain more information that way than by reading facts straight from a book. The Mosby Prioritization & Delegation book, Saunders Q&A CD, and Kaplan questions were the most helpful I thought. Some people study for hours and hours a day and that works for them, but for me it was best to stick to about 100 a day. It was less overwhelming that way. You were a great student and I'm sure you'll make a great nurse! Keep that RN title in mind as motivation and good luck studying! You'll do great!

Re: I can't get into study mode 4 the NCLEX-RN. I need advice and study tips

Thank you so much for your tips and motivating words and congrats on passing your NCLEX. I am taking it in a few weeks. I took a Kaplan review class and I don't think it did much for me. I'm using the Saunders Review book, NCLEX 3500 CD (to answer questions), and the course book from Kaplan. I don't have the prioritization and delegation book though. Many people have recommended it so I will buy it this week.

Thanks again

I also had no motivation to study after I graduated. So I barely made it through about 250 questions in Saunders and decided to take my chancesx with the NCLEX.

Did you have a HESI or other exit exam in NS?

Asides from prayer, start out with some good old fashion exercise first thing in the morning. I recommend exercising until you are sweating while telling yourself I will stay motivated, I will stay focused, I will not give Pearsonvue anymore money, and I will pass the NCLEX!!

In regards to NCLEX questions, this thread has a lot of good advice, but I would also recommend a review course with questions from the nursing boards. As well, please read the Priority Delegation and Assignment book from cover to cover.
