How much hours to study for the second time?

I was just wondering, how much hours to study for the NCLEX? This is my second time studying for the NCLEX and I am using sauders ( Suzanne's study guide). Right now I am studying aleast 5- 6 hours, is this not enough or enough. Honestly, I think that something is wrong with me , studying so long for the second time, but the Suzanne study guide is working....

Re: How much hours to study for the second time?

Are you studying 5-6 hours a day???? I think that's going to burn you out quickly. According to our instructor for the review course you should study for 20 minutes at a time for may be 2-3 hours a day Max. Study for 20 mins and then take a break. For me studying really early in the morning really helped.

Good luck, Dollface. No one can tell you exactly how long to study because we don't know the specifics of your knowledge base, how fast you learn, how much you can retain, etc.

Your scores on the practice questions are probably much more important than studying a certain number of hours.

I agree. Really the best way to study is practicing a lot of questions. I did about 100-300 questions a day when I studied. All the best!

Hi Eric,

What then do you think is the "least score" one must get in the practice questions in order to considered prepared for the NCLEX? I'm getting varied scores... First, i tried Saunders and I scored about 70-80%. From there, I started to gain confidence but when I tried Kaplan CD, my confidence dropped just like my score, around 60-70%. I'm afraid that these variations in my score indicate an unfavorable trend, that is, if I'm presented with a different set of exam like in the actual NCLEX, I will not do as good as in the practice questions.

Just like many others here, I want to pass it the first time so I'm really taking my review seriously. Thanks for your helpful thoughts and advice. Best regards.

Hi bebe13. Kaplan questions are harder so those scores are actually pretty good for Kaplan! Try not to worry about the score as much. The most important thing is how to approach each question and reading each rationale after each answer and knowing why that answer could be right or wrong. All the best!

Re: How much hours to study for the second time?

I am using Suzanne's study guide and getting 80% and above on the practice questons. The issue is not the nursing content but the strategies and expected outcome is alittle twisted. However, in reviewing the nursing content I learn things that was misunderstood so it's best to review the nursing content. I think

Re: How much hours to study for the second time?

Thanks, LenaRN06, for the tip. I wish you the best as well.

Sorry dollface99 for butting in this thread with a question quite off from the topic. I've overlooked that. Anyway, I've noted your suggestion in the PM. Best of luck to you!
