Did you need the computer tutorial time?
|
|
Hi everyone,
This may sound like an odd question, but I've read that your 6hrs includes the computer tutorial before the exam begins. My question for those of you who have taken it is, did you NEED that tutorial/explanation or could you breeze through it to save the time for taking the actual exam? Obviously I am familliar with how to operate a computer (I found this forum, anyway! lol ) but I imagine it tells you how to answer the alternate form questions (ordering, fill in the blank, etc.)
I've heard some people mention that they brought snacks to help keep from feeling hypoglycemic, what did you bring??
My other question, is that I know there are pre-scheduled breaks in the computer when you've tested for a certain amount of time, but are you able to take breaks before then (i.e: if I begin to feel overly anxious before the "scheduled" break, can I request a short break? )
My test is next Thursday, Sept. 7th in Orlando, and it will be my first go around!
Ooooh, I almost forgot to ask one more question (sorry!) Since my test is Thursday, those of you who were able to find out through your state's BON, do they post any license numbers on Saturdays? I figure Friday will be waaayy too soon, but I hate to think I'll have to wait out the weekend (BTW, I'm in FL, which typically releases results quickly)
Thanks to you all for your continued input!

actually i'm also familiar on how to use the computer...
but i still use the tutorial session... my purpose is to ease my anxiety when i first sat down in front of a computer... it really helps! it's just a few minutes.. it will help you breathe in and out.. when i'm answering the actual exam, i just felt like im answering review questions at home... mild anxiety helps. i got 75 questions in 1 hour and passed on my first try...
my advice: use the tutorial... it's just a few minutes..
chocolates may help...
you can request for a break.

Those of us who took the NCLEX-PN only received 5 hours, which included the tutorial time. Even though I am fully computer-literate, I carefully read the beginning tutorial before starting the actual examination. Since I only spent 1 hour and 15 minutes on the exam answering the minimum number of questions, time was not an issue. I passed on the first attempt.

It only takes a few minutes to do the tutuorial. Yes you can raise your hand and take breaks at any time. You can have snacks on your breaks ,but not in the testing area. Good luck on your boards!

If you log into www.pearsunvue.com and register they have the actual tutorial session on there. For the PN nclex anyway, I assume its the same for the RN.

Yep. Pearson-vue has the exact, identical, nada-different tutorial. So why waste time on it when time counts?
When I was scheduled to take my exam, I asked the proctor while I was waiting how I could go about skipping it (since it counted against my time and all). She insisted it did NOT count, showed me the pretty printout in her book, and I refused to believe it, lol....so when it came time, I just kept hitting NEXT and got through the tutorial in about a minute and a half....and THEN, on the way OUT, told that arrogant woman that since I WATCHED IT COUNT DOWN, I could certainly see it WAS counting against me.
She still insisted I was hallucinating.
Sigh.
Anyway, it's late, I'm rambling, LOL....do the tutorial ahead and you won't have to deal with it later

Wow, Thanks everyone for your input! I didn't realize the tutorial was on the Pearson site! Thanks! It was helpful to think of the tutorial as a moment to center and ground myself, so that was also very useful information!
Keep the input coming!

It does count against your time and even tells you so during the introduction. It's a good time to relax though and only takes 3 or 4 minutes of your time. Good luck...

Because, if you read the tutorial, it will only waste three to four minutes of your time at the most. In my opinion, you might as well read the tutorial.
