Can I take the NCLEX in a state different from the one I graduate in?

I'm just wondering because I graduate next month from a BSN program in Florida, but I'm planning to relocate to Louisiana right after graduation. I've been to the Florida & Louisiana Board of Nursing websites, and I can't find any info about this. Should I just stay in Florida and take my NCLEX before relocating or can my school send my info to the Louisiana Board of Nursing so I can take the NCLEX there? Grrrr this is so confusing!

I doubt it. As every state has different hour requirements etc. the schools in that state prepare you to take the boards in that state. Also, Florida has reciprocity with most other states so it would be a very good license to have.

i havent any knowledge about reciprocity....but, providing you have the class/clinic hours....yes you could sit in another state for the exam....go back to the lousianna bon site and find the numbers of hours required, and compare that to the hours required at your school...if your school meets or exceeds la. req. you should be good to go, if you are a little short on clinical hours you might approach your advisor about paying for more hours, good luck

NCLEX is a national exam. There is no reason why you can't take your initial exam for a different state to where you trained, you just need to meet requirements for initial licensure
