Just taking a poll. I'm wondering if any/how many took NCLEX RN right out of school and passed pretty much w/out any studying or with very little review? I read one poster that that happened too, and am wondering how many others. I have 10 days to take mine and just now will begin studying. Too burnt out on studying after school, needed time off, then lost motivatioin. Now crunch, Im motivated! Yet somehow I wonder does it really help or is it just that you know the stuff deep down to begin with. Not sure! From what I understand folks end up guessing at the majority anyway!

So curious about how long folks study in general and passed.

I did!!! I graduated May 20th, got my paperwork from school 10 days later. I sent that in and waited about two weeks for my ATT. I called to schedule my exam and told them I wanted the first available appt., thinking I'd have a week or two to get ready. It was a Thurs that I called and they offered me the following Monday, 6/19. I said "that's only 4 days from now!!!" To which they responded "you did say first available." So, there was no time to study. The night before I tried to look at some stuff from my med/surg book, but that only made me more nervous. We took HESI exams (great indicators of your success on the NCLEX)at school and I passed those with high scores, so I didn't take a review course. I passed the NCLEX with 75 questions. During the exam, I was thinking...I better pass this test, because I have no idea how I'd prepare for a next time...thank God I didn't have to worry about that.

Wow that's great! Congrats by the way! I haven't heard of HESI but we took something called the ATI and it 'predicts' also. I scored like a 98/99 percent chance of passing the RN nclex..so I passed on the review course which was 3 days...I guessed it wouldn't be of much help anyway and from what I heard it wasn't...but anyway... we were told that our ATT would be mailed in about a month from grad, so I waited, but nothing came. I called and then was given the ATT right then - so I signed up for the next available date well that was another month almost! so it's been 2 weeks since I got the ATT but, Im so burnt. So I thought I'd wait till about a week or two before and then practice some. The way I'm so burnt out frankly I dont think it would have done me any good to do otherwise! And there is so much information, how can I possibly remember it all. So - that was my thinking. But now that I'm 10 days away and really have only 8 good quality practice days to get my mind thinking 'nclex' again... I'm sweatin'!! ha!

As much as I see people reading and preparing...and then coming back sweating bullets it's good to know that some folks just went for it and passed! Gives me hope! A week or two of review is some; but it's not much!

I came home and did a little over 200 questions from the Saunder's CD before I decided that it was boring! I tested 2 days after returning home from vacation. Passed in 75 questions in ~55 mins.

It's all about critical thinking.

wow cool! I wonder if it's all about taking time off and just enjoying and clearing the mind! HA (Hey I can hope!). I would so love to go off on vacation about now!! I keep telling myself I'm going to take one here...in the next year or so!! (Need money for that ! Been a student ya know... grins).

I would not worry too much about studying Happygrad06. It is my opinion that the main purpose of nursing school is to ensure that you pass the NCLEX. If you made it through school you should do just fine on the "big test". I did not really learn how to be a nurse until after I had graduated.

Thanks mced! I hope so! I paid alot of money and sweat for that education ha ha. I was telling someone that it was bad enough trying to do okay and pass nursing school tests and now we have this 'big test' with 2 years worth of stuff on it..yikes its like a nightmare final exam! ha! But from what I'm reading on the forums, it's different than that so ... thanks. I'll try not to worry. I'm going to have to review my labs and maybe some meds so I can jog my memory but I really don't see how anyone can remember every little detail about every problem a patient may have! At least I can't and I was a B student (which is fair) all the way through.

Anywho I take my test on 7/27 so we'll see! I have a few days to practice some priority and delegation which it seems really is alot of it and thats about it! Either I can do it or I can't! But like everyone else Im nervous and I'm asking myself gee, I hope I don't have to go back and 'study' everything b/c I just can't remember ALL of it!! I'd try - but like the earlier posters wrote, they took the test and then asked, how would I ever study for this if I had to retake it! EXACTLY!!!

Happygrad, my NCLEX was 1/4 infection control, 1/4 prioritizing care, 1/4 delegation, and 1/4 misc. Study the first three and you'll be in good shape

I way over studied for that stupid test. I almost gave myself a heart attack worrying. Take it easy, definetely study but dont make yourself nuts. :mortarboard: Congratulations.

Actually, I had five NCLEX books and paid to take Kaplan's online course. Didn't realize I had so many books until I was packing my books up the other day.... I still shudder at the initials N C L E X....
