Yes, each person gets 50% of the questions correct and 50% incorrect. They essentially go by the levels that you were getting the majority of your correct answers in.

There is no way to second guess how you did on this exam, you are going to need to wait until you get your results.

Best of luck to you.

What is SATA? I keep seeing that on posts but maybe there i know another name for these questions. Is this just another language for the alternate item format questions?

Re: 85% pass the first time that they test

I had an aha moment today considering your 85% thought - because another local said she just took the test and it was the hardest she ever did - so I thought "how in the heck can 85% of people pass this if it's that far from what we feel we can reach?" I don't know the answer to that.

However, as I was pondering this, I thought of the 85% chance I was told I had in genetic testing for breast cancer for being BRCA2 positive. Everyone said, "15% isn't that much of a risk to live by, remove the breasts...85% is very high, it's a very high risk".

Several years after removal (right after biology but before A&P, ha), I am hearing this same risk factor, but in reverse, for passing NCLEX.

That is a big odd in our favor...I'm going to try to keep positive these next 14 days...but I sure wish I could sleep at night so I could study more effectively!

Re: 85% pass the first time that they test

I wonder what percentages of graduates are forced to "pass" the Hesi exam or some other exit exam, not allowing them to take the NCLEX otherwise?

This would skew the results a bit, for those who weren't required to take and pass an exit exam.

Re: 85% pass the first time that they test

I have taken the NCLEX twice. The first time that I took the exam I had a lot of SATA questions. I feel like I do really poorly on these. I would love to know if there is some kind of strategy to these type of questions. Thank you for asking the question!

I like SATA questions. 23 of my 75 on the NCLEX were SATAs and if I remember correctly, were teaching questions. Here's how I approach them:

1) read the question twice. Get rid of the distractors and determine what is being asked.
2) read each answer carefully. Does it appropriately answer the question?
3) don't worry about how many you've selected.

I thought Kaplan had a decent amount of SATA practice questions in the qbank. Hope this helps.

Re: 85% pass the first time that they test

Would your plan work for me if I graduated 10 years ago. Currently studying using Kaplan, Saunders, Internet . . . anything I can find. Let me know--thanks

Re: 85% pass the first time that they test

It has worked for people that graduated 20 years ago, but it only uses one book, and nothing else.

Worst thing that you can do is to throw in many sources. It is designed to be done completely on its own and not in conjunction with anything else.
