From this thread, I got clobbered just because I identified the nationality of a foreign nurse taking care of a great actor. I know it is not relevant to the discussion but why should I be castigated to? If that nurse was an American, will be castigated too for identifying her as an American?
As an open minded person, I agree with most posters here that the hiring of foreign nurses is just a band aid solution to the nursing shortage.
It doesn't give any incentives for hospitals/employers to improve working conditions, salaries, safer staffing when all they want is money.
For the BCIS to ease the backlog, the US agency will stop processing working and immigrant visas filed after January 2002 until such time the backlog is gone. For those nurses who really BELIEVE that foreign nurses are to be blamed for the nursing shortage, i.e. hospitals look to us, instead of keeping American nurses by providing them all the conditions they wanted.
Then YOU only have two to three years to make the most of it. This is YOUR window of opportunity to act together. As you act together here in this thread against the hiring of foreign nurses. As you act together by agreeing that this new visa rule is good for all American nurses.
Get your act together because after the backlog is gone, THEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO BLAME US AGAIN BECAUSE AMERICAN EMPLOYERS WILL START LOOKING FOR US.
For POSTERS who wrote fondly for foreign nurses which include Filipinos, a big THANK YOU!
