Let me guess...u must be from Dullsville? Kinda bored and slow from where u're from? (Glad to be a New Yorker) That may be true I may not be able to vote now, but that doesn't stop me from being able to vote in tha future...hehhe (this is REALLY off tha hook) YOU can't tell me to 'go back home' How communistic....thank God for freedom of speech on message boards .

I feel that US nurses have lost their pride and tradition and that is why the young people are not interested in nursing anymore. All we do is fight and argue and not pay attention to what the real problems are in nursing. There's nothing wrong with QUALIFIED foreign nurses wanting to come here in pursuit of a better life. We US nurses take alot for granted. American nurses want the same prestige as the doctors recieve and that is just never going to happen. We are due respect. I feel we should be respected my all medical staff, but we are not doctors nor do we have the extensive training as doctors, so get over it. We are here to COMFORT the patients, that is our job. We got rid of our noble white uniforms and caps and now we wonder why we don't get no respect. When I graduate, you can best believe that I uniform will consist of the white dress that was worn by or faithful nurses of old and it has nothing to do with be a servant to the doctors. If you look at most foreign nurses in their countries they STILL wear the white uniforms of old. In Mexico and Asia, nurses still were look like they did before this feminism, or burning of the bras took over. I'm not saying that the old uniforms made us do our jobs better, but it did give us our respect that we have lost for so many years. I'm sure some of you will not agree with this, but then again that your choice.

I dont live in your country I was only planning to, I would always respect peoples rights and beliefs that is why I am a good nurse and have travelled far along my career pathway.
We have people from other races and cultures here in United Kingdom too, and guess what they nurse, and guess what nurses work hard here too.
But hey you have a choice and I choose to be a professional that treats all people with the same respect, regardless of where they come from or how they got here.

I also ,as NurseGuy'06 says "won't go into someone else's country and start telling them what is wrong with it." This is such a hot topic in the U.S.-why would you expect anyone not to express their opinion?
Have you read some of the other comments made by people on this thread, then I feel you may find some of the material offensive, yes I believe in freedom of speech. but should not all nurses stick together to fight for what is right for the good of our fellow workers and patients.
I think you may find a common link between nurses from all countries and that we can learn off each other.
When I came in to nursing I did not come into this profession for the millions I was not going to earn.
I would like to work in your country not because I have a bad life and awful working conditions here in England, but I do believe your country can offer me a better standard of living and I have large extended family over there whom I wish my children to know. I can offer myself as a very educated, skilled Nurse of 15 years, so I feel i can bring experience with me. I do not want to come to your country to be just taking but to be giving as well.
Is it not possible that there are many people offering skills like me, that can only be an advantage.
I trained for 3 years 3 months for my RN, then i trained for 18 months to get an honours degree (BSC hons) to become a specialist in my field. I have numerous courses under my belt again amounting to a further 18 months studying. I am also working towards my masters. So i feel i can offer a far amount.
Again I cannot be the only foreign nurse who has all this going for her.

Unhappy the real issue

All right, y'all. Everybody reach into their meds cabinet and take a chill pill. There are no available visas for 3 countries because they have exceeded their quotas, not because we're screening them for terrorist connections. Let's not use national security to mask our own greedy and selfish motives. It's natural to bargain for better pay- there's no one stopping you - but let's not claim to be better than anyone else. WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!! Our own Department of Labor (yeah- of the United States of America!) declared the nursing staff shortage, so get over it. Let's just wait and see what happens. Terrorists? What terrorists? Was there any Filipino, Chinese or Indian among the hijackers in 9/11? NO. Most of them, if not all, are from the middle east, particularly Saudi Arabia. Yet until now, there are lots of visas available for people from that country and their neighbors. So how can we say that this visa issue has anything to do with terrorism? If I were you, I'd write my congressman and ask him to vote to reallocate visas from the middle east to asia where we get much-needed help.

You really have no clue. Sometimes I feel like I am reading a script from a Hollywood "B" grade movie. Occasionally I read a well thought out post but most of the time all I read are emotions. Try logic every once in a while. I have NO problem putting the interests of Americans first. If foreigners don't like that I DON'T CARE! If American citizens feel guilt for being born here then too bad.
