Truly, I'm just not following you here.

We are obviously reading this article in completely different ways. I'm seeing a very common, typical picture of one very typical ER patient. I see no need for CYA on anyone's part.

I'm curious why you wouldn't have let this pt. go to the bathroom alone. Female patients presenting with abd pain and/or vag bleeding are extremely common - we see several a day. Off to the bathroom they go, if at all possible. A urine specimen is the first order of business.
I had my last child at 43. I'm peri-menopausal now at 51.

1) hasnt anyone informed this lawyer of the "diving" reflesx? this kid would have to have been left in the toilet, not just born into it and picked up

2) average of menapause in the USA is 51, perimenapause is ~10 years, so yes most 46 years old are perimenapausal

They can still have kids though . .

Actually, I was experiencing peri-menopausal symptoms prior to getting preggers . . hot flashes, irreg and heavy periods, etc.

Put on progestin to regulate things . . . . . 3 months later . . .PREGGERS!

absolutely, however a previous poster had implied that the assumption that leslie made was erroneous, and it is not

That's OK, Altra- I'm having one of those 'off' days. Been in a fog all day, so I probably am reading the article the wrong way.

oh, i honestly don't know, altra.
i never worked er, so i defer to your expertise.
with that in mind, pregnancy would have never been my initial thought for a 46 yo woman, that's all.

That makes too much sense. How dare youn want to hold someone accountable for their own actions?!

Re: Woman didn't know she was pregnant, gives birth -- now hospital is sued

So the child is still in FL being cared for by relatives, after being taken away from Mom who tested positive for cocaine (again) and who is off in NV someplace, unable to be reached??
Well of course it's the hospitals fault then, Mom seems to be such a stellar individual-ready to take responsibility for her own actions!!!

It really is a terrible situation for that child but to sue the hospital for the care for her entire life because they are 100% responsible? No way, if mom had coke in her when the baby was born, and who knows what else she was doing during the pregnancy and said she didn't know (denial, psychosis or whatever) HER actions are a HUGE component of the outcome of that child. The family may not be happy with it but I don't see how it's ALL the hospital (and nurses!) fault.

I am feeling kinda cranky, but that's just my !
