Volunteering for Tsunami Emergency in South Asia
Project HOPE has been tasked with organizing U.S. health professionals seeking to volunteer to work in the Tsunami-affected region of South Asia. In particular, they will be providing support for the Navy in the deployment of the USNS Mercy in a Humanitarian Assistance mission. Assignments to the region will be for a 30-day period over the next 3 months. The first voyage is planned for
January 26 and others will follow.
REGISTERED NURSES
General Requirements: Current US RN license; current practice hospital-based experience; previous experience in emergency response situations, ideally international humanitarian mission.
Specialties:
Operating Room, including CRNAs Medical/Surgical
ICU/CCU

PHYSICIANS
General Requirements: Current US medical license in good standing; current practice experience at a hospital or other relevant institution; fully-board certified; highly experienced; previous experience in emergency situations, ideally international humanitarian mission.

ASSIGNMENT INFORMATION
The assignments will be staffed in rotations of 30 days each. Each volunteer will be required to commit to a minimum of 30 days (one rotation) up to a maximum of 90 days (three rotations) in region. The first rotation starts as soon as January 26, 2005. Project HOPE will be responsible for all travel, visas, relevant vaccinations, and accommodations in region. A current passport is a plus. Volunteers will be briefed thoroughly on the assignment. Security training and risk management are priorities throughout the assignment.
