UK - Fury as student nurses told there are no jobs for them

STUDENT nurses have been told they may have to explore other career options when they have finished their courses due to a severe lack of positions in the area.

Members of the School of Healthcare Studies have been told they will have career guidance in a bid to find other professions.

A national shortage of nursing jobs has seen the students being told they could finish their three-year degree courses with little chance of finding employment once they have finished.

I thought there was some idea that RNs who were there on immigrant visas would be asked to leave, who were not UK citizens

Look out! We're next! Soon, corporate America will replace us with lower paid workers. As I look back to the 35 years of changes that I have observed, I'm very concerned. This is only the beginning of the trend.

Unhappy Re: UK - Fury as student nurses told there are no jobs for them

No, not enough money to pay for anymore nurses in the NHS. Next time I miss a break because there is too much work for one nurse, I will think of the fat cats in Whitehall and Downing Street.

When our elected officials weaken our laws, corporate hospitals and ECFs will behave the same way. Not enough money to pay for more nurses? In our country, this is due to the need for profit.

Re: UK - Fury as student nurses told there are no jobs for them

Monopoly capitalism is as prevalent, it seems, in the UK as it is in the USA.
What is capital? Capital is money, industry, and labor.
In monopoly capitalism, capital is shipped abroad rather than the products manufactured by native workers, using native industry, and using native transportation means.
In true capitalism, native citizen workers, using the native industry base, and the native country's transportation system, ship finished products abroad.
True capitalism is defined as inclusive of free enterprise and competition.
Monopoly capitalism destroys true capitalism.
The shipping of labor abroad can include "outsourcing", unjust legal immigration ( as is the case for nurses in the UK and the USA such that large number of foreign born nurses are brought into the country), and illegal immigration.
The aforementioned has the consequence of impoverishing the general population (including nurses) and concentrating both political and economic power in a very few groups and entitities.
"Monopoly Capitalism" is considered by many political theorists as the last stage of capitalism before a dramatic socio-political change occurs in which some form of socialism replaces capitalism.
If you are a "true capitalist", like myself, you will take appropriate measures to alter the current prevalent forms of capitalism in both the UK and the USA, "monopoly capitalism" to "true capitalism".
Best of luck to all of the British nurses.

Re: UK - Fury as student nurses told there are no jobs for them

I beg to differ!

As an EU immigrant in the UK, I travelled from Scotland to England for a job. I competed on equal terms with other people who were also interviewed. I was chosen.... they were not. It has nothing to do with cheap immigration in this country. Everyone on the NHS is paid according to the established pay scales. Yes, I know that it is hard to graduate from studying ANY degree and have to look for that first job. But since when is society obligated to give it to us? We must stop this attitude of waiting for everything. Go out there and get it!!!!

PS: 2 years ago... there were not many jobs in Scotland and plenty in England. Now 2 years on .... it seems there are not too many jobs in England but THERE ARE jobs in Scotland! The pendulum swings.
