While I do not live in a nursing home, I am Medicare eligible. I went to the Medicare website. Last posting is July 25, 2005. There is nothing about the required flu vaccinations. I find it amasing that the government can mandate a vaccination for a select group of people. I question Yahoo's information and believe there is much more to the story then they present, as usual.

They are mandating that all Nursing Homes OFFER the vaccine. I will more than likely have a tracking log so if surveyors ask I will be able to tell if
1. The pt had the flu vac
2. The pt refused the vac
3. The Guardian/POA refused the flu vac
4. The pt has an acute febrile illlness and will be given the vac when better
5. The pt has an allergy to the flu vac
6. There is no supply of the flu vac.
Hopefully this will help make it clearer. I read the CMS guidelines but very quickly so there may be more details that I missed.
