Funny, that cheap doctor says he needs "funding" to fly the guy back to the US... so that he (the doctor) could do research (and become more famous). That would cost $2047 to go from Jakarta to Los Angeles. Leaving in four days....not even planning ahead.

Don't wanna wait tables for that guy...

EEuuurgh! I agree it's horrid. Poor man. But is it real? My DH, who is a podiatrist looked at it, and said it was a fungal infection gone haywire!

I think they said it had something to do with HPV. He had some genetic defect with his immune system which causes the HPV to "hijack" (I'm getting this from a source I can't remember, just fyi) his skins cells making the warts go out of control.

So, fungal infection, like my boy suggested?

He looks like a "fun guy" (har har) but, I think his problem is viral. At least according to the doctor that is treating him anywho.

*looks for that source again*

Re: Tree man who grew roots, baffles doctors

"After testing samples of the lesions and Dede's blood, Dr Anthony Gaspari of the University of Maryland concluded that his affliction is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a fairly common infection that usually causes small warts to develop on sufferers."

"
Dede's problem is that he has a rare genetic fault that impedes his immune system, meaning his body is unable to contain the warts.
The virus was therefore able to "hijack the cellular machinery of his skin cells", ordering them to produce massive amounts of the substance that caused the tree-like growths known as "cutaneous horns" on his hands and feet.
Dede's counts of a key type of white blood cell are so low that Dr Gaspari initially suspected he may have the Aids virus."
