Re: Health department warns 40K patients in Nevada

It will be interesting to hear what the motivation behind this was. Greed? Laxity? Lack of understanding of the rules of infection control?

Re: Officials: Clinic Infected 6 With Hepatitis

That is very scary to me as well. It is hard for me to imagine an RN reusing things like that. It goes against everything we are taught. However, something tells me this isn't an isolated incident. There are so many small edoscopy or surgical centers owned and operated by MDs with an obvious financial incentive to engage in these practices. This is where RNs and other MDs need to stick to their professionalism and advocacy for patients and not allow these practices.

What the heck???? I wonder how many of us will now have patients ask "is that a new needle" I cant imagine any nurse not just throwing the used needle in the sharps container. Goes against every thing we have ever learned.

I know, it makes me glad I am having my endoscopy at my hospital. This is not likely to happen there, Luckily.

How long did this practice go on? I think those who worked there and failed to report the practice should lose their license.

Here's something that made my blood run cold...

These 40,000 potential exposures? I read an article where state officials said that they were only able to get records from the years reported, because there'd been renovations (or something to that effect) in those offices and they weren't able to investigate further back. Meaning... there could be many more people affected.

Re: 40,000 people in Nevada possibly exposed to HIV and Hepatitis

that is disgusting... I can't believe all those health care "professionals" did not stop to think of infection control... what a mess!
