Please don't. I work with MANY excellent aids. For every 1 bad aid there are at least 100 great ones, so feel proud if you do good work!

I find it very hard to believe that technologically proficient people would even ask questions like this!

I don't even carry a purse. Theft happens, and it hasn't happened to me because I keep my valuables on my person.

I usually get my breaks. What I do on my break is my business. If I feel like calling my mother to ask if she's still having heart palpitations or would she like to come in to the ER, I pull out the phone, turn it on and call from the privacy of a locked bathroom. If my kid forgot his lunch money, I can see that he's text-messaged me and coordinate some kind of solution with his father.

Once again to the OP, I apologise for the thread straying OT.

Once again, I agree that what these girls did was heinous.

However, I do not believe that health care facilities can (or should!) try to police the personal electronic equipment that visitors, patients, doctors, and employees have on their persons. I especially disagree with the notion that ONLY NURSING STAFF needs to have these items confiscated or removed from their persons while doing their job.

This is my last post on the topic. If you want to disagree that badly with my position, forget changing my mind because it will simply not happen. I suggest (again) that you start a new thread.

Re: Teen CNA's Face Obscenity Charges

Wow, when I posted this originally I had no idea it was going to turn into what it has. I just saw the article in the news and was disgusted. I'm not sure where I stand on the cell phone thing, I can see both sides of the situation. I think it comes down to hiring the right people. A normal person wouldn't be more likely to shoot pictures of an elderly persons genitals just because they have a camera available to them. Unfortunately, hindsight is 20/20.

It just seems that this is another thing that makes the nursing profession look bad. And we all know that there are a lot of great nurses and cna's out there. So many more than the few bad ones that make the news.

Re: Teen CNA's Face Obscenity Charges

I am suprised at the sentiment expressed by some of the posters in this thread. My first post was on subject and I feel that a slap on the wrist sends a message that nothing serious will happen if you violate someone's privacy with some implement of technology.

The important consideration is it is ONE'S ACTIONS that should be held to scrutiny. Why does carying a camera cell phone imply that a voilation is probable, even though possible? Shouldn't we hold acountable those who actually violate privacy, than consider anyone who could? Shouldn't strong sanctions, such as being fired, going to jail and or fines be deterrent enough?

Policies existed long before camera cell phones existed, and before that, a moral sense of right and wrong concerning privacy. No one should have to tell us if an action violates privacy. At least I hope not.

Least we not forget, HIPPA is standing over our shoulders.

With all this discussion about technology, it would be appropriate to start a new thread. It would be interesting.

Phil

I carry my phone, either on silent or off in my pocket while I'm at work. I never use my phone while I'm on working on the floor, nor would I. On the off chance that I get a break or lunch and want to make a phone call, I need my cell. Of all numbers I call frequently, I only know 4 of them by memory, the rest of them are stored in my cellphone

All I can say is "disgusting!" I didn't even need (or want) to read the article...what was written on the post was enough for me! That makes me so angry...they better not be allowed to set foot into a nursing home or hospital ever again!

Re: Teen CNA's Face Obscenity Charges

OK I am reading this post and yes I'm sure these girls were trained on HIPAA and yes anyone can make a "rule" not to bring camera phones/PDA's on the floor....but for Crying Out Loud....does one REALLY need "training" for HIPAA or "rules" against the carrying of a cell phone with capability to KNOW that taking a picture of someone in a health care setting REGARDLESS of which body part is WRONG.......they should not only not be CNA's, LPN's RN's any nurse in any capacity but they should also be criminally charged....

Trying to get back to the original post here....
These ladies will have action taken against their CNA license, right? I didn't see that mentioned anywhere, but surely it will happen.

Hopefully their CNA certification (CNAs are certified, nurses have licenses) will be pulled and they won't be able to work in healthcare again.

Otherwise, a whole lotta people are gonna be extremely upset.

Because they are children, NOTICE TEENS, I dont condone what they did
but they are young and silly. They will one day regret this, but age is the cure
and pulling their license and embarrassing them the same way, will also ensure they understand the significance of this.
