Administrators at Tara Hospital at Brownsville said they had a contingency plan in place for the financially struggling hospital if the union representing registered nurses at the hospital decides to strike.
Last month, members of the Brownsville Nurses Association of the Pennsylvania State Education Association-Health Care scheduled a vote for Tuesday to determine if they would strike. In November, the facility switched to an all-RN hospital after administrators laid off all the licensed practical nurses.
Attempts to confirm the result of a union vote last night were unsuccessful. The Fayette County hospital's three-year contract with the union runs through April 30, but the agreement can be reopened every year to evaluate wages and health care for the union's 40 members.
