Swedish Nurses Union announces strike!

The Swedish Association of Health Professionals, which organises 112,000 registered nurses, lab technicians and radiology RNs have given formel warning to employers that a nationwide strike will start April 21st. This conflict measure comes forth after intensive contract negotiations stranded Friday.

As a first step, 3,500 key union members will be taken out on strike, including many of those working radiology, microbiology and ER at my University hospital.

Here's a tiny article I found in English:

Re: Swedish Nurses Union announces strike!

I live in Texas but my son and his family live in Taby, near Stockholm. Sure hope no one gets sick or hurt during this time.

Are all Swedish nurses paid on the same scale or does it vary from one facility to another? What is the average wage and hours per week?

112,000 does not seem like many people in a union. That is about the number of RN's and LVN's in Texas, but your number included lab and radiology techs I believe. Is union membership mandatory? Will nurses be paid anything while on strike? Why do some go on strike but others do not? Sorry, but I just am curious and concerned. I believe world nursing owes a lot to the Swedish nurses and researchers as so many good studies have come from Sweden.

I hope this is resolved soon, for the sake of all concerned.
