Study highlights CPR knowledge lacking
A study has found the levels of cardiac knowledge and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training among older Queenslanders is dangerously low.
James Cook University Professor of Rehab Science, Michele Clark, conducted the study with a major focus on people over 60.
She says the results showed a high percentage of people in that age category did not know the emergency 000 number and did not know how to do CPR.
"Well, these findings were really quite concerning because we know that cardiac arrest is very age-related and also we know that most people have their heart attack at home, or near the vicinity of home, so we were quite disturbed that older people had less knowledge of how to respond," she said.
