Yay!!!! Congrats all of you CA nurses. ...but I think the 1:5 ratio is still too high. Let's see about getting it down to 1:4 I bet Arnie would love that!

I love that Ca. nurses are unionized. Each time one of your cities goes on strike, I am able to come out there and get paid a lot of money to work to cover your shifts. I am planning a 14 day Hawaiian cruise next year, hopefully somebody out there will strike and I'll be able to make enough to really enjoy all of the "cruise experiences".

I am soooo proud of our strength and unity in California!
It is amazing what we can accmplish when we work together.
to address the comment above about striking:
We have two unions for Nurses in California: SEIU Nurse Alliance and CNA
When nurses take collective action we can win for our patients and raise the standards for our profession!! We were only able to accomplish this past year because nurses were united in our efforts!
we took on the giant healthcare corporations who were suporting Arnold and WON!
Onward to implementation and enforcement on the floors!!

1:5 is the maximum number of patients. The hospital is required to increase staff by acuity.
How about Arnolds statement, "We're going to move on, work together with the nurses and all the other unions," he said this week after touring a Shanghai steel plant. "We're going to work together, Democrats and Republicans, because we want to make the state successful."

to which he should have added, "... and because when I tried to assert my inflated ego and pass my own dictates in a special election, I got my butt kicked!"

OH MY GOSH!!! I HOPE THIS IS A JOKE!
Unionized nurses are who are helping to set SAFE standards for pt care by making hospitals and other companies realize that those of us at the bedside DO know what is best for our pts. In most situations (like ours) the doctors agree and assist where they can. If you are using these opportunities for this reason, in fact, HOPING, for the opportunities you should be ashamed! In fact, you should be saying thank-you on behalf of your pts....not your wallet. Why are you a nurse? Is the $ your sole purpose! Define nurse..please!

I wouldn't take that comment too seriously. You may notice from their other posts that they used to live in California. I wouldn't be surprized if they regretted the move since Texas has no ratios. Especially since 80 percent of the RN's here don't belong to a union and don't have to pay union dues to benefit from ratios.
When people make outrageous comments like that, I view it more as a case of "thou doth protest too much."
