Riverside nurses land top credentials

Nurses at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus have earned what is seen as their profession's gold standard for patient care.

The nursing staff has been awarded magnet status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, according to Riverside, part of the OhioHealth hospital system.

To earn the designation, an organization must undergo a multifaceted evaluation and meet standards and quality of care indicators established by the American Nursing Association. The process includes a four-day site inspection by the association.

Only 3 percent of the nation's 7,500 hospitals have received magnet status. Others in Columbus with the designation are Grant Medical Center, Children's Hospital and Ohio State University Medical Center.
