Patient Safety Issues

This hospital is union, and the nurses still have to fight for the law to be enforced. This is an interesting read, but too much was lost in some real issues.

Re: Patient Safety Issues

An RN reporting unqualified personnel during cardiac procedures at UCLA Hospital testified for enactment of the California Whistleblower law for acute care in 1999.
The hospital may have to pay a fine.

Re: Patient Safety Issues

Nurses have to speak out. So many times the unit managers, and the hospital cover things up. They do it even after a nurse tells them of a patient safety issue. Is all about $$, not safety, or the life of the patient. Everyone who uses hospitals, or may need one some day, everyone.. Everyone should be involved in these issues.

As a military nurse I never saw one patient safety issue that was covered up, heads would have rolled, big time. The military has different values, and it's not the bottom line.

With our big business hospitals, the value system is all about big bucks, not human lives. The proof is this, disaster training is scant, post 9/11. Why? there is no money in it. This is only one example. How is this countries hospitals going to deal the comming flu outbreak?? There will be no money in it. It's interesting how little lives are valued.

Re: Patient Safety Issues

RCH will pay through the nose for those agency nurses as well.

As I know for fact, it's not just the staffing problems that are unsafe at RCH. This hospital is run on apthy, mediocrity (sp), and money. Where does this leave the patient, and the nurse? I'm soooooo glad somehting is happening here.

I don't live in the area any longer, but it gives me hope that some good will come of this.
