make you stop and think about how lucky you are if you have something that is treatable
My mom was recenly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She had actual symptoms four days prior to her diagnosis (jaundice and nausea). And a month prior had been to her MD for a check-up with lab work in which everything looked great. We had absolutely no family history of this type of cancer or diabetes (and she has never been diabetic).
At the time of diagnosis, the tumor was already involved in her aorta, so it could not be removed. She wasn't able to undergo the full Whipple. She is currently alive with good control of her symptoms, but she is going to die. She has opted to not undergo radiation or chemo due to it only marginally lengthening her lifespan, and she would rather have a a good few days than a bunch of bad ones.
It is a death sentence, and I hope one day someone will stop it.
I went from having a HEALTHY normal, active mom to one with a terminal diagnosis in less than a week.
