So much for non profit status and U.P.M.C. not paying their FULL share of taxes to allegheny county. If they would, the city would have plenty of money for improvements. I'm sure they will continue to make more and more profits each year.

Pittsburgh nurses are headed for meager times when UPMC takes control of all of Pittsburgh healthcare. Pittsburgh is known for poor pay and respect for nurses, but UPMC will gladly keep our pay well below national average to boost their bottom line.
As far as Pittsburgh gov't being interested in some of UPMC's money they need to get their own houses in order (ie eliminate all the curruption and fraud) before they scream about needing more money. My two cents as a UPMC employee.

I would hedge to guess though like everything else nursing there is heavily unionized. So if the wages and respect for nurses is so low don't they- you have only yourselves to blame. I have in the past worked at a unionized facility and we were the best paid and some of the most respected in that state. Of course when 3,000 to 4,000 nurses
speak as one management tends to listen.

UPMC nurses: are any UPMC facilities unionized other than Western Psychiatric Institute? The only other Pittsburgh-area hospitals that are unionized, to my knowledge, are Allegheny General and Canonsburg (both WPAHS facilities), Butler Memorial, and The Medical Center in Beaver (part of Heritage Valley). I may be wrong.

Nursing is not heavily unionized in Pittsburgh ... go figure.

Then I guess I would do my voting with my feet and go work else where. With 50 states and a nurse shortage I would definitely go where I am wanted and respected. Oh and by the way for the original poster I did look at UMPC's web site and I thought FL had some crappy wages.
