Here we go again. Who was it that said, "The more things change, the more they stay the same" ?

Schools and hospitals will be flooded with applicants. Combine this with a knee-jerk reaction of hospitals to the new Medicare regulations, hiring freezes and down-sizing to save their bottom line and soon it will be proclaimed there is a glut of nurses. Pay scales will flatten and extra benefits and bonuses will dry up.

Then nursing schools will see a downturn in the number of applicants, and new nurses will flee the bedside under the stress of being buried in even more paperwork and facing ever-increasing patient ratios and acuity.

Lather, rinse, repeat.
