As nurses strike, hospitals pay big for replacements

Hospitals are paying replacement nurses as much as $50 an hour in some cases and as much as $90 an hour for overtime as the number of strikes at hospitals inches up this year and a shortage of nurses creates a supply crunch.

Re: As nurses strike, hospitals pay big for replacements

$50/hr isn't all that much for a strike nurse. I've heard the usual is $100/hr for straight time or $1,000 a shift.

My nursing instructor told us of the cash she made during a huge strike. She felt bad that she was scabbing for her fellow nurses, but she comforted herself with the fact that the hospital was losing money with the high pay and lost business.

As you can make $55-60/hr per diem in Philly, it ain't that great a pay scale for a strike breaker.
