CC Hospital says reduction won’t hurt patient care
With a contract extension deadline a week away, Cape Cod Hospital has made another offer to resolve a growing controversy with its nurses.
Stephanie Craig-Francis, R.N., associate director of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, said Thursday that the hospital put another proposal on the table to reduce the premium paid to weekend nurses. She declined to discuss details.
“Any proposal they make has to be considered,” said Craig-Francis, who added that she will meet Tuesday morning with the weekend package nurses to review it.
The union negotiator said the nurses’ contract expired in October; the parties agreed to an extension to March 1. Without another extension, the union would be able to take a strike vote.
Earlier this month, hospital management proposed reducing the premium paid to 60 nurses working weekend shifts.
