EDMONTON -- Alberta's 23-thousand registered nurses have agreed to a contract extension which will boost their wages three per cent next year.
The RN's voted 95 per cent in favour of the one-year contract extension yesterday.
They are members of the United Nurses of Alberta.
UNA president Heather Smith says the extension gives the union a chance to address workplace issues such as workload and occupational health and safety.
Smith says there are also ongoing talks to work out problems regarding benefits and travel compensation.
A spokeswoman for Alberta's Health Regions says those ongoing talks are essential.
Only one employer, the Good Samaritan Society, is not joining in on the extension.
The extension is in effect from April 2006 to March 31st, 2007.
