Nurse Calender Girls
|
|
Today in the LaCrosse Tribune, November 15th, I read an article about several nurses in Sauk County Wisconsin who put together an actual "calender girl" calender, apparently to help raise money for a benefit. I read this and was immediately sick to my stomach! What a huge blow for the image of nursing! I don't know what else to say other than HOW SAD! It makes me want to cry. After all the work and all the time that has been put into improving the image of nursing. After we have come so far! I don't want to work in a "Profession" if these are my "colleages". Will the state of Wisconsin PLEASE pull their licenses!

IMO you are completely out of line with your last line. These are nurses who obviously care and are trying to make a difference in the lives of others.
It's not like they're selling the calendars to school age children, grow up!!
Could they have done something else? Bake sale, maybe? Sure, but you see, this is America...land of the free...and as evidence by these ladies...the home of the brave. These ladies felt that this was a good way to get the word out and get their point across..oh, yes, and to HELP OTHERS.
So they want to be put Full Monty on a calendar and you think that makes ALL nurses look bad? Give me a break. Please don't lump these well meaning ladies with those RNs you know who have tried to give PO meds thru an IV. Let's focus on what's really bad...a few nude fortysomethings...or nurses who couldn't find the working end of a Foley with both hands and the directions.
Pull their licenses...gimme a break.

Astounded at your lack of compassion

i also think it was nice of them to try to find a way to help others .it may not have been your choice but it did help others .i don't think it reflects bad on nursing profession .however i do think your last sentence "pull their licenses" was uncalled for ,rude and uncompassionate.

If i purchased one of those calendars, it would be for the fund-raising point, not for the photography (not that it offends me).
(I can think of a worse scenario to be offended by: for-personal-profit pornified nurse calendar.)

The media compared the calendar to the one done by some older ladies a few years ago. I don't have any problem with this - granted probably not something I would pose for (or that folks would buy - lol), but it is a free country.
I feel sorry for the lady who lost her two children.

I agree with the above statements expressed so well. I would wish to be able to show my body in a opriate fashion but Hmmmmmmmmm. Anyway good for the girls who have. I personally think nursing is about skills and knowledge not about how you look. But if the total package is presentated well by these women then the profession of nursing should be happy there are some of the younger women who do scrub up up well. Arent we told nursing as a profession is evolving!

I am calling and getting one if they have any left.
I don't see anything wrong with what they did, I don't beleive it is any less professional. Firefighters have done it numerous times, Doctors auction themselves off for a date, for fundraisers. What is the harm.

First of all, there is a HUGE difference between all out pornography and tastefully done art. They said it is done to resemble what the ladies in the movie Calendar Girls did....meaning that it's hints of nudity done tastefully. It's not like they are laying around legs spread like porn stars or something! They are trying to do something GOOD, which should be commended.
