Re: Number of Philippine Nurses Emigrating Skyrockets

And I will throw in my two cents here. I have worked with Filipino RNs for most of my career that has been very long, and too many years to count.

The nurses that graduated ten years ago or longer, in many respects are very different from the new grads that have come out in the past two years, they are not being given the skills that they need. And the government there is to blame. Schools are opening that have no business preparing nurses. Clinical instructors have no nursing experience on a floor, so how can they show a student what to do?

That being said, some of the best nurses that I have ever worked with are Filipino, and some of the best CRNA's that I have worked with are Filipino.

But training now has changed. Check out the Filipino Forum to see proof of what I have been stating.

And the Philippine government needs to take some responsibility for that, instead of wasting time to send officials here to get CGFNS to change their mind on the Visa Screen Certificate. Not going to happen, they think that the US is required to take their nurses, the US is not.

About 70% of the foreign trained nurses in the US are from the Philippines.
That is why many of us are so concerned with the "puppy mills" that are now operating out of there.

You do not see that in other countries.

It is because that most US hospitals go there to hire and that Philippines used to be a former US colony.

Well, the "puppy mills" is a different story, everybody is jumping into the bandwagon and with the Phil government not so strict in maintaining the quality of these new schools of nursing then they are producing "inferior" graduates who lack the basic skills to start in the nursing world.
