Re: New incentives for Army nurses

I can still sign up, so an age waiver is not needed- the limits I am speaking of are for the incentive programs as many of the $$ incentive programs have limits on age. For example, the ROTC says you have to be 23 or under if I remember right.

I was still eligible for some but not the "good" ones or the ones I wanted so I just didn't sign on. The draw would have been the incentive as the pay sucks and job conditions/location can be brutal. I may apply with the Govt to work as a civillian nurse on a base someday.

I am also looking at re-enlisting with an ADN. I was in Basic training but was discharged due to a knee injury/surgery (that I was up front with when I had to do all my initial paperwork. The Army way of life so appealed to me that I am trying to get back in. My re-entry code is waiverable, so my fingers are crossed. The money incentives are nice I suppose, but everyone is entitiled to superior nursing care and the military is where I want to provide it. I am hoping it all goes well and I can get back in.

Age waivers are given out routinely for high-demand specialties like medicine and nursing. As long as you can meet the physical requirements, I can almost guarantee they will let you in.

The advantages of military nursing are numerous:
- wide range of training
- easy ability to work in a variety of settings
- rapid advancement with much higher earnings after several years of experience
- much greater autonomy in the clinical setting
- no fears of lawsuits
- access to subsidized training in advanced studies

Given that it's my service, I'm very partial to Navy nurses. But really, any of the services will give you a lot in return for your service.

Re: New incentives for Army nurses

I currently work at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. I am a former Army medic and am now going through Excelsior to get my RN. I work in the Oncology ward. The job security is amazing. I get all the hands on experience I need right through the hospital because it is a specialty and educational hospital. My boss is opening an RN position for me as soon as I get my license. The pay is competitive with salaries based on your location. It's the closest thing you can get to the military without actually being in. Oh and the benefits package is nice. Only 14 vacation days a year though.....

Hope this helps.
