MLK Hospital is a long-standing thorn in the flesh. It's been called "Killer King" years before this scandal was made public. I agree that it is a shame that this fiasco of a facility is named after such an important person.
Closing it is NOT the answer. The population it serves are predominantly African American and Hispanic who have little to no access to routine care. It's true that the nearest facility with equivalent Trauma care is miles away. It could very easily be argued that closing MLK is "profiling".
The "fix" was voted in because people were lied to about the fact that things would dramatically change if it was "joined' with the noted neighbor to the south: Harbor UCLA.

I'm one person that hoped patient care would get better.

It is a very complicated situation with no easy solution.
IMO, a facility with the positive aspects of MLK (trauma care) does need to be in that area, but not at the expense of basic human dignity.
