Mercy,

I don' think anyone is saying that the tests shouldn't be offered to every newborn. (Actually they are also sometimes used as a screening tool when an older child presents with s/s of rare disorders.)

We are simly saying that they shouldn't be forced on parents with conscientious objections, just as we don't force vaccinations on anyone.

November 14, 2007: The Newborn Screening Saves Lives Act (S.1858) passed unanimously out of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, Pension (HELP) Committee on a voice vote.
