Man spared jail after attacks on nurses - UK

Bosses at Birmingham's City Hospital expressed their disappointment last night after a judge decided against jailing a man who injured three nurses in the accident and emergency department.

Mickael Downes was given 200 hours community service after punching one nurse in the face and injuring two others as they attempted to treat him last July.

Last month, Downes (21) of Selston Road, Aston, Birmingham, was told by Recorder Peter Andrews QC that he would be going to prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of affray.
