Los Angeles health facility fails latest test
Los Angeles' Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center has failed an inspection by federal regulators, moving the beleaguered public hospital closer to losing $200 million in federal funding.

Yeah, what a shocker.... The place should be closed. It would have been closed years ago if not for the racial politics.

WHY are the police called for mental health patients?
What is the staffing?
Do they have enough licensed and other trained staff for a 'take down'?

I can't understand why, as previous articles reported, physicians assistants and other staff were not terminated after coming to work two hours late more than once.

Sell the beautiful large hospital if need be. A hospital IS needed in the area.
The County Supervisors have been and continue to be responsible for mis managing (or not managing) this hospital.

I hate it but truth is many fine nurses quit in fear for their license. Those who wrote incident reports, tried to discuss patient safety at staff meetings, or reported unsafe staffing and practices to the DHS were disciplined.
Management spread nasty rumors about staff who advocated for patients, wrote them up for a "tone of voice" or "negative attitude", suspended them.

These RNs and LVNs are valued staff at other facilities now.

Prayers are said at countless churches and in many homes for this hospital to improve and stay open.
I just pray for the best.

Its always sad to here about stories like this. I know nurses that work at this hopital. It's a shame that they will be lumped in with the "unprofessional staff" This hospital has a psychiatric facility around the corner, Agusta Hawkins (sp). I do not understand why the hospital would not know what to do. I am pretty sure these patients either came through King or use the medical services if needed. I have worked in the mental health field for years, police can not bring their guns into the facilities; they have to put them in a lock box. Taser guns.... have they heard of patient rights and no retraints... wow....

Maybe they need to close the hospital, re-open under a new name and hire new staff.
