Exclamation Immigrants Sedated Without Medical Reasons.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv.../cwc_d4p1.html

"After injecting the sedatives, the nurse travels with the deportee and immigration guards to their destination, usually giving more doses along the way. To recruit medical escorts, the government has sought to glamorize this work. "Do you ever dream of escaping to exotic, exciting locations?" said an item in an agency newsletter. "Want to get away from the office but are strapped for cash? Make your dreams come true by signing up as a Medical Escort for DIHS!"

Illegals? Sign me up. Hell, I'd do it for free.

One, they are not "immigrants". They are illegal aliens, people who have broken the laws of our country refusing to become an immigrant the legal way.

Second, sounds like an exciting job where one can escape to see exotic and exciting locations.

Third, I do not think this reporter did a very good job of showing both sides of the story. I know of a dude that is involved in this and have come to understand that there is a lot more to the situation than what was published in the article.

I worked as a correctional care nurse for an ICE contractor several years ago, I've seen agressive offenders travel home in a restraint chair, I think sedation is a great idea for the unlucky nurse escorting the criminal home at tax payer expense. Too bad we can't inject something to make them stay there.

Thumbs down Re: Immigrants Sedated Without Medical Reasons.

I find it disheartening when we maltreat others and justify it by stating that they were wards of the state and have no rights. What will you do when you find yourself possibly a ward of the state and are treated with antipsychotic meds without permission?

We see this same rational of our government regarding torture. No, harm done, we got the information we wanted didn't we? But, please remember, there is no guarantee that what the government uses unjustifiably or as they see fit justifiably against "breakers of the law" or "suspected terrorists" can be used against us if we don't agree with the policies of this government or future governments.

Even Nazis who when asked to pull the lever to fill the chamber with gas didn't flinch.

OKAY, I know the responses you've been getting here are not what you had hoped for, but comparing the sedation of illegal aliens to the Holcaust is unwarrented and insulting.

Re: Immigrants Sedated Without Medical Reasons.

I'm not a nurse and I don't have much sympathy for illegal aliens, however I believe medicating someone without their consent is assault. I don't care what the gov says. They may not have a right to stay in the country, but they should have the right to refuse sedation. After all, aren't there risks with sedation?

Re: Immigrants Sedated Without Medical Reasons.

I live in a border state, so I have pretty strong opinions about illegal immigration and deportation.

Buuuuuuuuut, I mean, come on this is bad! I realize that we are only seeing one side of this story but something seems so ethically wrong to sedate someone so much that they are slumped in a wheelchair and deported.

Is there anybody to recover them when they are dumped back into their country? Anybody there to protect them now that they are incapacitated?

So strange...and bizarre. And unethical. (but in no way comparable to the holocaust)

Unlawful presence in the US is a civil charge, not a criminal charge.

And, as someone who is slap dab in the middle of this process, for most of the people being vilified here, there is no process for them to be immigrants the legal way. It's not a 'refusal', as much as you want to make it out to be. And how about the people who come here legally but overstay their visa? You seem to overlook them and make the assumption that all of the 'illegal aliens' (not my favorite term) are jumping the fence.

Forgive my strong reaction but I know many many many undocumented people and they are not the parasitic, America-hating, job-stealing leeches they are made out to be.

I read an article about this sedation business the other day....and I am still angered about it.

There's no process? Am I missing something? Yes, there is a process, it's just long and painful, but it's there.

What the PP meant is that instead of waiting for the process (which I hear can take 10+ years) they cross illegal anyway.

Most people I've known cross while waiting for the paperwork, and then become legal after living here for years.
