I know. I'm just pointing it out because the title of the article said that doctors are doing it. But the endoscopy clinics in Nevada that sparked this whole controversy had CRNAs, not MDs.

This right here ia a prime example of why a lot of nurses get irritated with the whole MA vs nurse thing. Some one says "that nurse did _____" when it wasn't one at all. I digress...
Seriously though I'm laughing thinking of the implications of everyone asking every professional these sorts of questions.
" Hi Mr. Investment officer, I've heard that some of you steal your clients money. You do not do that do you?" or "Hi Ms. Police officer, I've seen on the news that some of you beat your clients mercilessly for sport. You don't do that do you?"

My mom has now told me to ask. I don't. I trust my hospital and they are an awesome hospital so I do not feel the need to ask.

Hospice has residence centers where some night shift nurses were found leaving used needles in the pts armchairs, imagine that lawsuit if a visitor or child sat in that chair, Gadzooks...Used needles of those dying with
oh lets say Hep C , aids, and more... One of the many reasons I gave a two weeks notice before they twisted any legitimate complaint I might have while a newbie there and it come back to haunt me, as if I was dumb enough to tell oh about things like: Needles left out in pts rooms , pts medicines being left out in reach of other pts, etc, pts allowed to lie about things constantly and therefore being able to play staff against each other , in the pts twisted manipulation games since they felt the need to control some area of their life. I left as a C n a to a better paying, more compassionate caring environment that truly care for its pts, families and understands employees need their bosses to stand up for them if unity is to ever be accomplished, To patronize a pt in the manner this place described we had to do was a dignity issue I could not handle so instead of
becoming bitter or falling for the hype I left (No pun intended) I started there with education as a legal asst, after taking Patient Care Tech classes and getting Licensed as a PCT, and C N a 's have licenses since 2007 as far as I know .
i believe it was the syringes that were being reused, not the actual needles, which may (at least in part) have been how the staff justified their actions...however, the several confirmed cases of Hep C infection (among other things) that resulted from the clinic's actions certainly underscores the reason that some medical supplies should never, ever be reused.

Let's add it to our scripting, we'll just follow it with, "Is there anything else I can do for you? I have the time!"

I will NOT take an injection if I do not see the syringe taken out of the sealed package. Sorry my body, and I must protect it.
I would not be upset if a patient asked me to do that for them because it's their responsibility to protect themselves also.

in some facilities, actually, its not only the doctors nor the nurses use "used" syringes. It is that, they don't have any choices. THey need to use "used" syringes because that's the only option they have!
There's one facility I've worked with last year that they do this practice. (It's not a secret to spread, but this is not actually a secret. I just want to share some reality out of that issue) People at that area are very oppressed that they cannot afford to buy syringes of their own. I don't think the government are thrift or maybe they really don't have enough budget for the health of the community. So what the management of the facility does is to "boil" the syringes, even the needles, for it to be reused. Sounds really one hell of a kind, but I have never heard any deaths caused by infection due to the use of "used" needles. ( or maybe they just give a different dx, or maybe they are just really good in keeping secrets....) Arh! I don't want to go back to that facility ever again! I got even sometimes a feeling of shame to myself with that experience....(Pity me....) And I pity them too...
Any donors from out there????

that was one of the worst patronizing "articles" I have ever read on the subject. Yeah, let me take a piece of candy from your dish after I wash my hands in front of you..... and the comments at the bottom of the article are laughable. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, evidently.
to lzl_bluesport-- I have seen same syringe/needle for same client in IV pushes in the most remote of areas, but still have not seen the same syringe/different client scenarios here (northern luzon). I hope not to. Also, I haven't yet seen a needle get injected into someone more than once. (through skin)

And, with my own 2 eyes, I have seen anesthesiologists do the same thing. Imagine that.

It used to be standard practice in the US, too - sterilize and re-use, I mean.
