In a long term care setting, I would say that 50% of the pts we accepted had C Diff. We did get rid of it though which is good. A good dose of Flagyl, questron, generally kills it. The major thing is making sure that it does not spread. Handwashing, handwashing, handwashing.

just googled it too ewww

Doctors involved in the trials admit there are "obvious aesthetic problems" in the treatment, which involves patients ingesting a liquidised sample of faeces from a partner or close relative.

Re: Hospital C. difficile infections jump 200%

Very good article.
It brings back rather unpleasant memories, though.
My problem with C-Diff is one of lasting consiquences.
I have had three events of C-Diff, each one more serious than the one before it.
The upshot of three near death experiences is that of many others.
You become colonized and require close monatoring if Antibiotic therapy is needed.
The best answer is, not to ever need that.
The need to visit an infectious disease clinic and obtain a care plan for if you ever need antibiotic therapy.
It becomes pretty scary if you get C-Diff. You can go down the tubes very quickly.
Head for the ED the minute that you suspect that is happening. Then Pray.

Bless your heart. I am sorry about this. The only reason I found out all of this, I saw the posts. How awful and scary. Will you ever be free of it? I'm sure removing your bowel would be so traumatic. Where are all these killer diseases coming from? Increase in population. I'm totally scared of going into any public resrooms. This is horrible! Hugs to you.
